If This Is Wednesday...
... then it must be time to check my computer's security. I usually spend a few minutes on Wednesday morning looking at passwords, backups, and so on. I could let it go longer but I have my calendar set up for weekly reminders on Wednesday mornings and that works for me.
Do YOU have a regular look at your backups, anti-virus, and other security issues? If not then it may be a good idea to look right now.
What should you check for? Well first... make sure your backups are being made for you. I discovered this morning that I had turned off my automatic backup software and it had been 2 days since my last backup. It's better to find that out and fix it NOW rather than let it go until I NEED my backup and find out it is OLD.
If you don't know how to do a backup - check our websites for a recently made video that covers the topic in detail.
My anti-virus check is next. I run a Mac but I still use anti-virus software. I use VirusBarrier Plus. It was updated at 4am this morning and ran a scan at 5am. That's good.
And I look at my passwords every week too. I updated one yesterday. And made sure it was written down for safe keeping. It wasn't but it is now.
That's it for my Wednesday morning routine. Now on to other things.
I ALMOST Fell For This One...
Yesterday I got a notification that I had a message on facebook so I opened it and read the thing. It was from a person on my "friends list" and said "How could you do this to me!? I thought we were friends and you posted this photo of me! Where did you even get this picture???" and there was a link to another page on facebook.
Naturally I clicked the link expecting to see either a joke or something I had no idea about since I have not posted photos of anyone on facebook. Instead... I landed on the page there you login to facebook. I started to put my mouse into the username box and enter my username and password... And then my mental caution flags started going up!
I was already logged into facebook! So why did I have to login again? After looking at the page again, I realized that someone had duplicated the exact look of the facebook login page but it wasn't facebook! If I entered my username and password, then whoever created that app would be able to login to facebook as me!!!
If you get a message saying you need to login to facebook... STOP!!! RED FLAG!!! DANGER!
Do not login again or someone will have your login information and will make your life miserable!
