Yes... the article and video on April 1st about the iPhone stitch eraser was an April Fools Joke, but there really is a "stitch eraser" that has been around for years now.

It is still sold in various stores and online and looks a lot like a hair trimmer or a bikini line trimmer.  We have used little $20 bikini trimmers from Wal-Mart to do the same job.  Just turn your embroidery over and shear the back side of the bobbin thread.  Then pull the design out from the front.

If you are very careful, no harm will come to the fabric.  If you do harm it, then consider an applique there.
