One trend we have seen in the last few years is that more and more embroidery designs are becoming "3D". It used to be that designs
were only placed flat or puffy or with fringe onto fabric as traditionally done for centuries. But now, more designs are being stitched out and used to make three dimensional objects.
The rose design above is a great example of something we didn't traditionally think of as possible with embroidery. You can download this design and complete instructions for how to make it
here...
The 3D Rose makes me think of another new hobby that is gaining momentum today and that is "3D Printing".
It is where a traditional inkjet printer is blended with a head that moves up and down as well as side to side and front to back. Instead of putting ink onto paper, it puts melted plastic onto a base where it solidifies in a split second and becomes a three dimensional object.
WHAT IS "3D
PRINTING"?
So far, 3D printing is not a common hobby, but it IS growing and I can envision that 10 years from now these 3D printing machines will become extremely useful and ubiquitous. Here's a great video that gives you a look at 3D printing...
So, how many of our readers will be using a 3D printer in the future? I think those of you who say "not me" will be surprised! :-)
