Good morning embroidery fans!
Happy
St Patricks Day!
Did you know that one place that celebrates St Patricks Day is the island of Montserrat? For those who ask "where?", Montserrat is a Caribbean island owned by the UK. It is not as popular a destination as it once was in the early 1960's through late 1980's as the island was devastated first by hurricane Hugo in 1989 and then by a volcano eruption in 1995.
The volcano forced 3/4 or the island population to leave. The population after the volcano was down to 1,200 but now it is back up to a little over 5,000 residents.
As a ham radio operator for many years, I would sometimes have late night chats with radio station operators there. In the 1970's I met one of those operators in person when he was visiting my town
for business.
What is the connection between Montserrat and St Patrick's day? It seems that in 1632 there was a boatload ( literally - a boat load ) of Irish immigrants who landed there and made it their home. :-)
